LUCKNOW: Chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday announced that leading software company HCL will invest Rs 1,500 crore in the state in the next two years, opening new job avenues for youths.
Adityanath made this announcement at HCL Samuday, a corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme of the company, at HCL IT City here. Samuday is a rural development initiative to create model villages.
The CM, who has showcased UP before US companies as an investment-friendly state, said it was everyone’s duty to welcome entrepreneurs to UP. “Being the largest state of India, Uttar Pradesh is also the biggest market in the country, and hence, all must join hands to make the state investment-friendly,” he said.
Applauding the HCL for its social responsibility projects, the CM said: “HCL is not only making jobs available to youths but it is also making villagers self-reliant through its various projects.”
The CM urged the company to adopt some villages in the state.
“Even so many years after Independence, 1655 villages in the state have not received any benefit of government schemes. The HCL Foundation must adopt some of these villages to ensure their development,” he said.
Referring to the development work carried out by his government, the CM said: “In the state, there are 60,000 gram panchayats and 1.71 lakh small villages (majra). Out of this, more than one lakh majras do not have power supply. Within seven months of forming the government, we have made power supply available in 15,000 majras.”
The chief minister said six districts were declared open defecation free under the Swachh Bharat campaign. The CM assured that 30 districts will be made open defecation free by the year-end and the entire state will achieve the milestone by October 2018.
The HCL is providing free education to 1900 children in the state. The CM was welcomed by HCL founder Shiv Nadar who presented Adityanath with an ‘angavastram’. Adityanath praised Shiv Nadar.
Roshni Nadar Malhotra, CEO of HCL Corporation, said: “We feel that through the ‘Samuday’ model, we will be able to develop a blueprint that is sustainable, scalable and replicable throughout the world.”
HCL Samuday is working in six sectors in the state, including agriculture, education, health, infrastructure, livelihood and water, sanitation and hygiene, in collaboration with village communities and NGOs.
