GORAKHPUR: Chief minister Yogi Adityanath will hold four rallies in his hometown Gorakhpur ahead of the civic polls to be held here on November 22. The polls in the CM’s constituency are being seen as a matter of prestige for the BJP.

The rallies that Adityanath is expected to hold will be held after Friday, the last day of withdrawal of names, party sources said.

Trader leader Seeta Ram Jaiswal, who fought the last election on an SP ticket but lost, is the BJP candidate this time. He has been picked after sidelining two other BJP loyalists-- Chiranjeev Chaurasiya and Dharmendra Singh. Jaiswal has been given a ticket to gain support of the trader community which has supported BJP in the past but is upset post GST rollout.

“Since it is the chief minister’s constituency the stakes are high for the BJP in the both the municipal corporation and local panchayat polls. The party will leave no stone unturned to ensure the victory of its candidates here, ”said BJP’s poll in charge for GMC polls Dharmendra Singh. He further informed that UP BJP state president Mahendra Nath will begin the poll campaign in Gorakhpur on Friday. An election committee for civic polls, comprising Adityanath and minister of state for finance Shiv Pratap Shukla, has been constituted to chalk out the party’s poll strategy. All disputes over ticket distribution have also been settled and the party is united in its aim to win the elections, said Dharmendra.
