LUCKNOW: The Uttar Pradesh Police has compiled a booklet consisting of ‘get well soon’ messages for the Swiss couple who were assaulted brutally in Fatehpur Sikri near Agra on October 22.
Director general of police Sulkhan Singh released the booklet which carries messages posted by people on the microblogging site Twitter.
The state police had launched the message campaign for Quentin Jeremy Clerc, 24, and his girlfriend Marie Droz, 24, after the assault led to national outrage.
Addressing a press conference in Lucknow during the release of the booklet, Sulkhan Singh said as a goodwill gesture towards Marie and Jeremy, the UP police started a get well soon campaign on its twitter handle @uppolice with the hashtag #GSWMarieAndJeremy. The response from across the country has been truly overwhelming, he said.
“The booklet is just a token of love and warmth of the people of this country towards our guests which has been aptly summarised by the Indian tradition Atithi Devo Bhava’ (Guest is God),” he said. The 76-page booklet was presented to deputy head of mission, Swiss embassy, Tamara Mona and ministry of external affairs (MEA) spokesperson Ravish Kumar. Terming the booklet an outstanding effort, the Swiss embassy appreciated the UP police gesture, said Rahul Srivastava, PRO to DGP.
