Dalit students launch campaign
MEERUT: A group of Dalit students has launched a postcard campaign against slapping of the National Security Act (NSA) on Bhim Army chief Chandrashekar.
President of Democratic Students Front at Chaudhary Charan Singh University (CCSU) Sushil Gautam is spearheading the campaign. Other organisations have also demanded withdrawal of NSA.
Gautam said the students of JNU and Delhi University had also extended support to their campaign. “Pradeep Narwal, who is associated with the Democratic Students Federation at JNU, has been asked to seek support of students for the campaign. We are also contacting student leaders at the Delhi University,” he said.
Meanwhile, the postcards signed by the members of the Front would be sent to the President of India with request to direct the state government to withdraw NSA imposed on Chandrashekhar. Members of Bahujan Sashaktikaran Sangh also held a demonstration outside the district magistrate’s office on Friday. Chandrashekhar alias Ravan was arrested in June on charges of inciting violence in Saharanpur after he was denied permission to hold a Dalit panchayat.
He was in jail since then and was admitted to hospital last month after he complained of abdominal pain. Chief medical superintendent of the hospital Dr Ajit Choudhary said Chandrashekhar was suffering from typhoid and liver infection.
