Nadal confident he will be fit for ATP finals in London

LONDON: Rafa Nadal is confident he will be “100 percent fit” at the ATP Finals in London as he continues to recover from a knee injury. The Spaniard pulled out of the Paris Masters before his quarter-final against John Isner during his third-round win over Pablo Cuevas.

“Hopefully the knee is good,” Nadal said. “I’ve done everything I’ve needed to do in order to get ready for London... Let’s see if I am able to be 100 per cent. If nothing happens, then I will play. I know I’m confident because I’m having a great season with one event to go. I am here to try my best.”

OMBUDSMAN FOR AIFF

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court said it could appoint an eminent footballer as an ombudsman, besides former Chief Election Commission­er S Y Quraishi, to implement the Delhi High Court order for reforming the constituti­on of AIFF. A bench of Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justices AM Khanwilkar and DY Chandrachu­d said it would pass an order on the plea filed by the AIFF challengin­g the high court verdict setting aside the election of Praful Patel as AIFF president.

XAVI TO RETIRE

BARCELONA:Xavi Hernandez is set to retire at the end of the season and is keen to pursue a coaching career. The 37-year-old, who won eight La Liga and four Champions Leagues trophies at Barcelona, is currently captain of Qatari club Al-Sadd. “I think my career has come towards its end, there’s been a descent,” he said.
