After successive failure, UP finally manage three points in Ranji Trophy

LUCKNOW:After successive losses, former champions Uttar Pradesh on Sunday took three points on the basis of first innings lead against hosts Assam in their Group A Ranji Trophy match, at the Barsapara Cricket stadium in Guwahati.

Uttar Pradesh made 349 in the first innings before skittling out Assam for 318 to take 31-run lead. In the second innings, UP declared the innings at 357/6, setting 389-run winning target for Assam on the final day of the match on Sunday, but at the end of play Assam were 148/4.

Resuming at the overnight score of 229/2 in their second innings, centurion Umang Sharma stretched his score to 148, which came off 235 balls with the help of 17 fours and a six before being caught by Kunal Saikia off Rajjakuddi­n. Mohammad Saif too added 39 runs to his overnight score of 38. Akshdeep Nath made 30 in 20 balls with the help of three fours and a six.

Sibsankar Roy (62, 130b, 9x4) and Gokul Sharma (62, 103b, 11x4) did well for Assam in the second innings, whereas for UP, left-arm orthodox bowler Saurabh Kumar finished with 3/52.

Aryan Juyal struck a fine century to help Uttar Pradesh post a challengin­g first innings total against hosts Vidarbha on the opening day of their four-day Under-19 Cooch Behar Trophy, at the VCA ground in Nagpur on Sunday. Juyal struck 114 in 177 balls with the help of 10 fours and three sixes as UP scored 286 in 89.5 overs. In reply, Vidarbha were 7/0 in two overs at close of stumps. Juyal along with opener Aryan Sharma (64, 139b, 11x4) added 115-run for the second wicket. Priyam K Garg (31) and Ankur Chauhan (45) were the other main run getters for UP. Rohit Dattatraya and A Choudhari took five and three wickets, respective­ly for hosts.

Former champions Uttar Pradesh on Sunday conceded 35-run first innings lead against hosts Hyderabad on the second day of their four-day Plate Group B Under-23 Col CK Nayudu Trophy encounter, at the Rajiv Gandhi Internatio­nal stadium in Hyderabad. In reply to UP’s first innings total of 234, Hyderabad were 269/9 at the end of day’s play. Despite losing two quick wickets early in the innings, Hyderabad batsmen showed a lot of character. GV Vinith Reddy (107), Pabba Nilesh (44) and PS Chaitanya Reddy (90*) did well for the hosts. Vineet Panwar, Trishal Vijay Trivedi and Shanu shared six wickets between them.
