UNABLE TO DEPOSIT SECURITY MONEY, ARTHI BABA OUT OF MAYORAL RACE IN GORAKHPUR
GORAKHPUR : Anti-corruption activist Arthi Baba alias Rajan Yadav, who has unsuccessfully contested dozens of Lok Sabha and assembly elections and even that of President of India, was debarred from mayoral polls as he failed to deposit the challan fee for nomination.
Arthi Baba, who is a post-graduate in international marketing business from Gorakhpur University, has been fighting against corruption, especially at the Baba Raghav Das (BRD) Medical College which shot to limelight on August 10 when over 60 children died due to disruption in oxygen supply.
It was on his complaint that corrupt practices by former BRD principal’s wife Purnima Shukla as in-charge of Bola CHC was exposed. Shukla is in jail with nine other accused in connection with children’s death at BRD Hospital. “Despite having all the papers, my nomination for mayoral election was rejected as I fell short of ₹2,000 while depositing ₹6,000 as security money. I will beg for money to fight the upcoming parliamentary bypolls in Gorakhpur,” he said. Gorakhpur parliamentary seat fell vacant after local MP Yogi Adityanath took over as UP chief minister and became a member of Uttar Pradesh legislative council.
Rajan accused several leaders of furnishing fake details to contest civic elections.
