Soon, semester exams for LU undergrad courses
LUCKNOW: Soon, the Lucknow University will do away with annual examinations and students of BA, B Sc and B Com will take the semester examination twice a year.
Vice chancellor SP Singh made this announcement while addressing the media on completion of one year in office here on Monday. The semester system for undergraduate courses will be introduced simultaneously both in university and in affiliated degree colleges.
“The university already has semester system in post graduate courses. The next big thing we are planning is to replace annual examination with semester in UG too. We are working in that direction,” Singh said.
Citing the benefits of semester system, LU officials said it would synchronise undergraduate studies with postgraduate courses.
“Students will have to slog less as they will study in smaller chunks. There will be a more focused interaction with teachers. The semester system will lead to greater flexibility in designing the syllabi of the courses,” an official said.
LU is also developing a system so that results can be declared quickly.
“Now examiners will be asked to upload marks for practical subjects and assessment on the university website. Once theory paper is evaluated, marks of theory and practical will be added online that will help declare the results much faster. Presently, it takes a month ,” the VC said.
The university is also planning to introduce student outreach programme and social activities in many of its courses.
