Curtains for UP in CK Nayudu Trophy this season

AFTER THIS LOSS UP FINISHED FOURTH IN SIXTEAM EVENT WITH 10 POINTS IN AS MANY AS FIVE MATCHES, THUS FAILING TO MAKE IT TO THE KNOCKOUT ROUND FOR YET ANOTHER SEASON. HYDERABAD WITH 21 POINTS AND MADHYA PRADESH WITH 14 POINTS WERE FIRST AND SECOND.

LUCKNOW: Finally, it was the end of the road for former champions Uttar Pradesh in this season’s m Under-23 Col CK Nayudu Trophy as they lost their last league match to hosts Hyderabad by an innings and 116 runs in Hyderabad on Tuesday.

Needing 333 runs to win with wickets in hand on Tuesday in their second innings, Uttar Pradesh got out for 229 in 63 overs in their Plate Group B match, at the Rajiv Gandhi Internatio­nal cricket stadium.

After this loss UP finished fourth in six-team event with 10 points in as many as five matches, thus failing to make it to the knockout round for yet another season. Hyderabad with 21 points and Madhya Pradesh with 14 points were first and second. Hyderabad scored 579 before skittling out UP for 234 in the first innings. Resuming at the overnight score of 13/2 on Tuesday UP batsmen never found going easy and kept losing wickets on regular intervals. Opener Madhav Kaushik (70, 120b, 9x4, 3x6), Himanshu Asnora (45, 64b, 5x4), Sahim Hasan (50, 73b, 8x4) and Vineet Panwar(31*, 56b, 2x4, 3x6) tried their best to adorn UP’s innings, but to no avail. Slow bowler Mir Omer Khan remained wreaker-in-chief for Hyderabad, bagging 4/79, whereas Y Sharwan Kumar and P Chaitanya Reddy shared four wickets between them.

UP CONCEDE LEAD

A sparkling unbeaten 80 by N Chavan helped hosts Vidarbha take a crucial nine-run first innings lead against Uttar Pradesh on the penultimat­e day of their four-day Group D Under-19 Cooch Behar Trophy match, at the VCA ground in Nagpur on Tuesday.

Resuming at the overnight score of 272/8, Vidarbha needed just 15 runs to take the first innings lead with two wickets in hand, and before the UP bowlers could do anything special, Chavan smacked 80 in 167 balls with the help of eight fours and three sixes to deny visitors lead as the team scored 295 in 98.2 overs.

In reply, Uttar Pradesh scored 270/5 at the end of day’s play in their second innings, extending their overall lead to 261 runs. Aryan Juyal once again underlined his potential, hitting an unbeaten 128 in 233 balls with the help of 11 hits to the fence. At close of stumps on Tuesday evening, Sameer Choudhary (81, 125, 6x4, 3x6) was giving company to Juyal in the middle as the duo stitched together 156-run for the sixth wicket so far. Shantanu made 38. For Vidarbha, Rohit Dattatraya took 3/100.
