ALLAHABAD: Inspired by the BJP’s slogan of ‘Sabka saath, sabka vikas’, two Muslims have jumped into the fray as party candidates for the post of corporator in Allahabad.

Qamar Jahan, who is contesting for the post of corporator from Dairashah Ajmal (ward no. 79) said she had seen the work of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the last three years and was convinced that the party focused on development of all.

“BJP is not against Muslims or any minority community. If a welfare scheme is launched by the PM, it is for all and not a particular community,” she said.

Qamar said she decided to contest on BJP ticket to spread the message in her community that the party was working for all and Muslims should come forward to be a part of governance in present government.

Haseen Mansuri, a resident of Atala locality, who is contesting on a BJP ticket from ward number 71, said he was getting a good response from his community.

“Out of 12,400 voters, about 600 are Hindus but majority of people in my area are supporting me,” he said. Principal of Madarsa Imamia Anwarul Uloom Maulana Jawwad Haider said BJP was always against Muslims and those who were praising it were doing so for their personal gains.Mohd Akram Khan, a businessman and a resident of Tulsipur locality, said: “The Bharatiya Janata Party will not get the support of Muslims. There are many winning candidates of Muslim community but none of them chose BJP. This makes the message very clear.”
