LUCKNOW: Bahujan Samaj Party’s mayoral candidate Bulbul Godiyal said here on Friday that Lucknow progressed under the BSP regime in Uttar Pradesh.

Addressing a press conference, Godiyal also accused deputy CM Dinesh Sharma of taking no progressive measures during his 10-year tenure as mayor. “Presently, the city is languishing at 269th place on the sanitation index, drains are overflowing and there is no proper solid waste management system here. People are not getting potable water. There has been no development after Mayawati regime.” She said Lucknow owed its progress to the Mayawati regime.

“The BSP chief developed Gomti Nagar by building memorials, Ashiana was beautified through new parks, new roads were constructed and Hazratganj was renovated to mark its 200 years , though it has now been defaced by the present government. Mayawati also constructed Shivri plant for solid waste management and 345 mld STP at Bharwara, the biggest in Asia. BJP mayors have done nothing, in fact all the development work of Mayawati was undone by them,” she said.

Godiyal said she joined BSP as her father was a follower of Baba Saheb Bhimrao Ambedkar. “He used to help people and that is what I have inherited from him,” she said. Godiyal promised to fight for the rights of mayors and implementation of 74th amendment. She said she was the one who initiated the talk of pink toilets for women which was later adopted by the BJP in its manifesto. On being asked if Bollywood actor Anushka Sharma who was her niece, would be campaigning for her, she said, “I believe I can win without Anushka campaigning for me. However, she is active on social media and calling people to support me. If she comes here , it would be a good thing.”
