LUCKNOW: With campaigning for civic polls intensifying, mayoral candidates in the city are going all out to woo voters, especially lawyers who constitute a large chunk of the electorate .

On Friday, a section of lawyers organised a public meeting in favour of BJP mayoral candidate Sanyukta Bhatia near gate number seven of the high court. A large number of lawyers were present on the occasion.

Addressing the gathering, lawyer Prashant Singh said, “The BJP has government both at the Centre and in the state. So, in local bodies also we must support the BJP to ensure proper development of the city.” Brajesh Pathak, UP minister for law and justice, who was present on the occasion, also issued an appeal to vote for Sanyukta Bhatia.

A group of lawyers are also mobilising support for BSP mayoral candidate Bulbul Godiyal. Being a lawyer, the BSP candidate supposedly has an edge over other candidates when it comes to garnering support of the legal fraternity. She is also the first woman additional advocate general of Uttar Pradesh. Satish Mishra, another legal luminary in BSP, also has a strong support base in the legal fraternity. His influence in the legal fraternity is also proving to be an asset for the BSP candidate.

Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party candidate Meera Vardhan and Congress candidate Prema Awasthi are also making efforts to ensure support of the lawyers’ community.

The three- phase polling for civic polls is scheduled on November 22, 26 and 29. Polling in Lucknow is scheduled on November 26.
