Morning chill, smog no bar for City Run marathoners
About 2,000 people participate in the marathon themed ‘Every Voice Deserves to be Heard’
LUCKNOW: Braving the early morning chill and smog, thousands of youngsters came out on the streets to take part in the 9th edition of Lucknow City Run organised by IIM Lucknow’s Manfest-Varchasva in association with 1090 Women’s Power Line, UP.
The event was organised to raise awareness on any kind of injustice and to underline the fact that the voice of every aggrieved person should be heard, irrespective of the fact whether he or she is from the highest or lowest strata of society.
Despite the day being a Sunday, about 2,000 enthusiastic marathoners participated in the event themed “Every Voice Deserves to be Heard”, to show solidarity to the cause .
The run began from Lohia Park in Gomti Nagar. While men were required to cover a distance of 10 km, women had to run 5 km. Team Manfest-Varchasva also came up with its first ever 5 km run for fun which was open to all.
The run was flagged off by Samir Singh, the ultra-marathoner who took up the task of running 10,000 km in a span of 100 days.

Major Nitin Joshi and professor Mritunjay Tiwary were among the other dignitaries at the event.
Major Nitin Joshi, an army officer with a Guinness Book Record and a World Record in marathons, felicitated the winners.
He also inspired the youth with his story of starting to run at 35 and making a record in his later years by trying to bring perfection even to his practices.
Sudha KD Singh stood first among the women and Awadh Narayan Yadav among the men.
The winners were awarded prizes worth Rs 1 lakh, mementos, certificates and T-shirts. Certificates of participation and T-shirts were given to participants after successful completion of the marathon.
The prestigious B-school organises such a marathon every year to promote social causes.
