LUCKNOW: The body of a 35-yearold village pradhan was found lying in a pit on the roadside in Malihabad area here on Sunday morning.

The deceased’s family alleged that the pradhan was murdered by unidentified people as he was opposing some persons in the ongoing campaigning for civic polls. The victim’s family members also staged protest and demanded detailed investigation into the case to unravel the mystery behind his death.

The deceased, Manoj Rawat, a resident of Malihabad’s Bhulsi village, was pradhan of the same village. He was found dead in the pit filled with mud and water near the road linking the village to Mohan road. He was missing since Saturday night when he left his house on a motorcycle for some work. His motorcycle was also found lying in the same pit.

Superintendent of pPolice (SP), rural, Satish Kumar said the body was spotted by some of the locals who informed the local police about it. He said initial information is being registered with the police on the information of one Jagdish Prasad Maurya of the victim’s village.

He said the victim’s family members have alleged foul play but so far they have not lodged any FIR or raised suspicion on any person.

Kumar said the police have not found any fatal injuries on the body during primary examination. He said the body’s postmortem examination has been conducted to know the exact cause of death and the report is still awaited. He said the further legal proceeding depends on the post-mortem findings.

Earlier in the day, the pradhan’s mysterious death had angered the locals and they staged protest by blocking the road. BJP MP Kaushal Kishore from Mohanlalganj constituency, which also comprises Malihabad area, visited the spot after coming to know about the incident. The protest was ended when the MP assured detailed investigation into the case.

It is the second incident in past two incidents when a person has been allegedly murdered over dispute related to civic polls. On Friday, Alok Singh alias Pushkar, 25, was found murdered on the deserted stretch on the city outskirts in a Bakshi Ka Talab village.

He was brutally stabbed multiple times by the assailants allegedly for supporting his relative Arun Singh alias Gappu who is a Bharatiya Janata Party candidate for Bakshi Ka Talab zila panchayat chairmanship. The victim’s father Narain Singh had named one Lallu Singh in an FIR lodged in this connection but so far police have failed to arrest him.
