Passenger dies onboard Mumbaiboun­d flight

VARANASI: An 80-year-old passenger travelling alone in a Mumbai-bound Indigo flight died of cardiac arrest as the plane was on the runway at the Lal Bahadur Shastri internatio­nal airport here on Thursday. “Indrabhush­an Tripathi boarded Indigo airlines plane. It was ready to fly to Mumbai. As the plane moved on runaway, Tripathi complained of severe chest pain. Flight staff sought permission from ATC for diverting back the plane on runaway,” Dr Ashutosh Asthana deployed at the airport said.

VARANASI: An 80-year-old passenger travelling alone in a Mumbai-bound Indigo flight died of cardiac arrest as the plane was on the runway at the Lal Bahadur Shastri internatio­nal airport, Varanasi, to take off on Thursday morning.

“Indrabhush­an Tripathi (80) boarded Indigo airlines plane (6E-711) at the airport. It was ready to fly to Mumbai. As the plane moved on runaway, Tripathi complained of severe chest pain. Flight staff sought permission from ATC for diverting back the plane on runaway,” Dr Ashutosh Asthana deployed at the airport said.

“A foreign passenger, a doctor by profession onboard the same flight, examined Tripathi and declared him dead. The plane was brought back. I went into the plane and examined the passenger. He was dead. Cardiac arrest caused his death,” he added.

Later his body was taken off the plane and his kin was informed. Moreover, police were also informed about the incident.

In-charge, Phulpur police station in Varanasi, Vijay Pratap Singh said, “The body has been kept safe. We are waiting for the kin of the deceased. After they arrive, the formalitie­s will be completed and the body will be sent for a post mortem examinatio­n.”

Airport officials said Tripathi was going to his son VK Tripathi who is posted in the income-tax department in Mumbai.

The flight was delayed by two hours due to the incident. It finally took off at 12.15pm.
