MEERUT: Passengers of Patnabound Archana Express faced some worrying moments when the bogies of the moving train got detached twice from the engine near Saharanpur on Friday morning.

A team of railway officials from Ambala division visited the spot.

The incident occurred in the wee hours on Friday. Starting from Jammu, the train’s arrival time at Saharanpur station is 3.55 am.

According to reports, the coupling, which connects the engine with bogies, broke and the engine got detached from the rest of the train.

When the driver came to know about the incident, he accelerated the speed of the engine to prevent collision with the moving bogies, which halted after covering some distance near Pilakhani station, 6 kms from Saharanpur.

The train was then brought to Saharanpur station where it underwent necessary repairs.

It departed from the Saharanpur station at 5.35 am but the same problem occurred once again when the train had covered barely a few kilometres distance.

A technical team was sent and the problem was sorted out.

Deputy station superintendent of Saharanpur station Anil Tyagi said all this happened due to some technical problem which was resolved.

“After re-examination by staff and senior officials, it was decided that the train should be given a new locomotive to ensure that such problem does not happen again,” a spokesperson for North Central Railway said.

The train finally left at 7.25 am after all security clearances were received. The official said some mail express trains and goods trains were delayed due to the incident.
