Hosts UP Postal aim to retain trophy at All-India championsh­ip

LUCKNOW: Hosts and former champions Uttar Pradesh would be looking forward to take home advantage when they begin their campaign at the 33rd All-India Postal weightlift­ing, powerlifti­ng and best physique championsh­ip, starting Saturday, at the KD Singh ‘Babu’ stadium here.

After remaining undisputed champion for almost five years, Uttar Pradesh were pushed to the second spot by Rajasthan last year, and since then the hosts were looking for an opportunit­y to retain the title.

The 12-member team, including Shyam Kumar, Firoz Yunus Khan, Nawab Singh, LK Patel, Pradeep Kumar Yadav, AK Gupta, Amit Kumar Sharma, Lal Mani Yadav, Arvind Kumar Singh, Zaeem Khan, Sanjay Kumar Rai and Ratnakar Maurya look confident for a better show this time.

In all, 144 participan­ts from 17 different postal circles across the state have confirmed their participat­ion. “We have made elaborate arrangemen­ts to make this championsh­ip a great success,” PMG Head Quarters Lucknow Region, Jitendra Gupta said.

Sarthak Jain (3/6) and Arnav Seth (3/10) bowled well as CMS (Gomti Nagar) defeated GD Goenka School by 78 runs to make it to the final of the SAJS Trophy Inter School Cricket Tournament here on Friday.

PRASHANT SHINES

Prashant Srivastava took three for 19 as Dhruv Cricket Academy (DCA) defeated LDA Coaching Centre by six wickets to make it to the final of the Under-19 cricket tournament.

Panthers Cricket Academy (PCA) scored a four-wicket win against Arya Cricket Academy (ACA) to collect full points in the 1st Subedar Memorial cricket tournament, at the LDA stadium here.
