First timers super excited
LUCKNOW: First time voters were super excited to get their finger marked with indelible ink on Sunday as they exercised their voting rights.
“It was great to stand in queue for your turn, holding your own voter I-card. Feeling a sense of responsibility, I was happy to get my finger inked. Had read about the candidates and voted for the best one,” said Sudeeti Chaturvedi, an undergraduate student after casting her vote at Guru Nanak Girls’ Degree College polling station.
With the mayoral seat in Lucknow reserved for women, the young women voters were more enthusiastic this time. Eighteenyear-old Aditi Singh said it felt good to see Lucknow getting its first woman mayor now.
“Everybody has different reasons for choosing their leader. Mine was public health, hygiene and education. These are the basic requirements for the development of a city. I hope to see an improvement in these things,” she said.
Her friend Akanksha Chaudhary, 19, voted to bring about a remarkable development in the city of nawabs. “Lucknow is getting its first woman mayor in 100 years is and that is a significant move towards women empowerment,” she said.
Divyanshi Srivastava, 18, said she voted for a candidate who would work for the development of the state capital. “I have voted for a candidate who I believe will ensure proper disposal of garbage, ensure safe drinking water and guarantee proper community health services.”
Aditya Kapoor, 18, said there was no point in complaining about the problems if people did not cast their vote. Kapoor was put off to see that poll percentage in the state capital in the first 3
