Firoz Yunus wins gold for hosts UP Postal

LUCKNOW: Firoz Yunus Khan on Sunday won a gold medal for hosts and last year’s runners-up Uttar Pradesh on the second day of the 33rd All-India Postal weightlifting championship, at the KD Singh ‘Babu’ stadium here. Khan was followed Bhagwan Singh Sekhawan of Rajasthan and P Essakmuthu Vinoth of Tamil Nadu in the +105 kg weight category. Sunday’s other gold medal in the weightlifting event went to Saurabh Mehta of Rajasthan in the 105 kg category. Amit Sharma of hosts UP and K Ravikanth of Andhra Pradesh finished second and third, respectively. In powerlifting, Rajesh Shukarware of Madhya Pradesh, Upendra Kumar of Bihar and Anil Kumar of Gujarat won gold medals.

ROLER SKATING

The 2nd district roller skating championship will be held on November 29 and 30 here in the age groups u-6, u-8, u-12, u-14, u-16 years and above for boys & girls. More information can be had from Manjeet Singh, secretary of the district roller skater sports association.

LVCA MERGED

Lucknow Veterans Cricket Association on Sunday announced its merger with Cricket Association Lucknow. The new committee of veterans under the CAL included Rohit Chaturvedi, JB Saxena, KN Khan, KL Chopra, Balram Singh, BK Dixit, KG Arora, Pradeep Shukla, SP Singh, ML Mishra and V Pandey as its members.

FINE SHOW

Uttar Pradesh athletes staged a fine show at the 15th National Inter-District Junior athletics meet, which concluded in Visakhapatnam on Sunday. Aman Khokhar of Etawah bettered the previous meet record with his timing of 11.54s in under-14 boys 100m and won silver medal. In boys’ U16 javelin throw, Sunny Choudhary of Meerut won silver with 60.85m, while Etawah’s Vivek Singh had bronze with a distance of 56.72m. Baghpat’s Ashish with a throw of 48.87 metre in the boys under-16 category won discus throw gold.
