LUCKNOW: The issue of names missing from voters’ lists continued to make rounds on social media, a day after the state capital voted for civic bodies’ election.

To recall, large number of people were dejected and angry on finding their names omitted in the electoral rolls.

Small wonder they found social media the best platform to give vent to their anger against the irregularities that deprived them of their franchise..

The issue became ‘viral’ soon after polling began on Sunday morning and anomalies (in the voters’ lists) came to the fore.

‘Elections total mess, no arrangements, nothing. Voter list se naam hi gayab. Agar tayari nahi thi to election karwaye hi kyu (Names missing from the voters list. Why did they conduct elections when they were not prepared)?’—read the post of a dejected Facebook user on Sunday.

Another Facebook post of Gaurav Prakash, a Lucknowite on Sunday said—‘It’s so disappointing to express, at one end there are so many EVM machines malfunctioning, giving wrong and unfair results and at the other end the right to vote can be used only if our

names are there on the list , and sadly to report so many names have been missing from the voters list at a time when India seems to be digitally sound, reasons unknown! How can u call it free and fair elections? The election commission needs to answer us.”

Similar posts flooded Facebook on Monday as well where people not only expressed their anger but also tagged the State Election Commission in their post.

“This is very disappointing that in spite of having valid voter card and Aadhar card my name was not in the voter list of

municipaly elections in Lucknow, even though I voted in Lok Sabha 2014 and Vidhan Sabha 2017. And this was not the case with me only. There were lots of people whose names were not in the voter list. This is a very serious issue which will be taken up by the commission,” reads the post of Praveen Dwiwedi who tagged the State Election Commission as well in his post.

On Twitter, the scene was the same, with people calling it ‘a scam.’

“Biggest scam going on in Lucknow civic polls. A lot of names are missing from the

regional voter list. People have been denied of their right to vote. Those who are not alive still have their name on the list and those who eagerly wished to vote, their names are nowhere to be seen,”read a post on Twitter.

Another post on Twitter reads: “I contested as independent candidate from Raja Ram Mohan Rai Ward 33, Lucknow. Voter list was very deficient. Hundreds of voters found their names missing. Hence could not vote. Several residents who voted in last assembly polls found their names missing in the list.”
