Campaign for final phase concludes

BAREILLY/RAEBARELI: Campaignin­g for the last phase of civic bodies’ elections in UP concluded on Monday. Polling will be organised in 26 districts, including four municipal corporatio­ns, on November 29. The municipal corporatio­ns going to polls in phase three are Bareilly, Moradabad (in Rohilkhand region), Saharanpur and Jhansi.

Mayor candidates of all major political parties held rallies in Bareilly and Moradabad on Monday.

In Bareilly, BJP candidate Umesh Gautam started his road show from Sahykara area at 10 am. His cavalcade led by a pickup van travelled across the city with supporters waving the party flag. Gautam’s rival and incumbent mayor Dr IS Tomar of Samajwadi Party also organised a rally with his supporters. Another big rally was taken out by Aam Aadmi Party candidate Navneet Agarwal.

All three candidates claimed they would win the election to become Bareilly’s next mayor.

Meanwhile, in Rae Bareli the BJP and Congress candidates held road shows here on Monday on the last day of campaignin­g for the third and the final phase of local body polls.

BJP candidate Sonia Rastogi’s road show passed through Degree College crossing to Haathi Park, hospital crossing, super market, Ghantaghar bus station crossing to Tilak Bhawan.

Congress candidate Poornima Srivastva too passed through the same route and was accompanie­d by city Congress MLA Aditi Singh among host of other leaders.

The districts would go to poll on November 29. The counting of votes for all the three phases would be held on December 1.
