Good health key to happiness, progress, says KGMU V-C
LUCKNOW: Happiness, prosperity and progress were directly proportional to good health, said King George’s Medical University’s (KGMU) vice-chancellor MLB Bhatt here on Saturday.
Speaking at a session on ‘Making a Healthy Life Possible’ at Shri Ramswaroop Memorial University (SRMU), he said the young generation, in particular, should keep this in mind as they worked under tremendous pressure and were more susceptible to major health problems in the early phase of life.
The Industrial Collaboration Cell of SRMU had organized the guest lecture .
The V-C said an unhealthy person could neither be happy nor could he contribute to national prosperity. He summed up saying that teachers and students were the major pillars on which future of the country rested and hence it was very important that the mental, physical and spiritual health of both was maintained.
During his session, Prof Bhatt focused on the fact that people are staying away from the natural things available in abundance.
For example, he said that sitting in sunlight for 40 minutes for 40 days was sufficient to provide Vitamin D for the entire year, but people avoided it.
He said, “Our lifestyle has not become hectic but we have made it hectic.” He gave another example of people using lifts instead of stairs to reach on top floors. This resulted in lower physical activity that leds to increase in body weight and gave rise to diseases like high blood pressure and diabetes.
He said that presently people were suffering from lifestyle -related diseases which could be easily avoided by simply following a disciplined routine .
The second key speaker was Dr Abhay Narayan Tiwari, secretary, Aarogya Bharati, Avadh Prant.
The vice-chancellor of the SRM University AK Singh spoke about the various initiatives undertaken by the administration to keep students and faculty physically and mentally fit.
The session was attended by the directors and deans of the various institutes as well as students where they were apprised of how to have a healthy and happy life just by changing one’s lifestyle.
The students also asked questions after the session on the importance of water, sunlight and pure air.
A tree plantation drive was also conducted by Dr Abhay Narayan Tiwari in the presence of the registrar of the university VK Singh and other eminent faculty members.
Pro-chancellor of the university Pooja Agarwal presented a copy of Bhagavad Gita to the guests.
