AAP upbeat about its performance in state
LUCKNOW: The Aam Aadmi Party is upbeat about its performance in civic polls in the state.
The party won 41 seats in the civic bodies’ elections, including two posts of chairmen of Nagar Panchayats.
AAP candidates got elected to 19 wards in Nagar Panchayats, 17 wards in Nagar Palikas and three wards in municipal corporations.
“After campaigning for a short span, we have been able to win so many seats in civic polls in Uttar Pradesh,” Sanjay Singh, AAP national general secretary told newsmen here on Saturday.
“We will try to bring remarkable changes in wards from where AAP candidates have been elected,” Singh said .
In all these wards, ‘model governance’ would be enforced as practised by the party in New Delhi, Singh pointed out.
On the occasion, Singh also attacked the BJP. “The BJP lost miserably on Nagar Panchayat and Nagar Palika seats. It was confined to urban limits,” he said.
“This is just the beginning and in coming elections, AAP will emerge as a major player in Uttar Pradesh,” he added .
AAP has promised to introduce
‘Mohalla Swaraj’ in wards to check corruption in civic bodies. In its manifesto, it also promised to empower locals (people in wards) to certify work of contractors by issuing ‘no objection certificates’.
“This will not only keep a check on quality of work but also check corruption in local bodies,” said Vaibhav Maheshwari, state spokesperson, AAP.
It may be pointed out that AAP did not contest the last assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh with an aim to concentrate on civic polls.
