‘Education important for progress’

LUCKNOW: Vice chancellor of Jamia Milia Islamia, Prof Talat Ahmad, said education was very important for progress of the community and the nation.

He said this during ‘Jauhar Day’ function organised by Jamia Millia Islamia alumni associatio­n, Lucknow chapter, in the state capital recently in memory of scholar and freedom fighter Maulana Mohammed Ali Jauhar, founder of the institute.

Alumni from India and abroad attended the programme in large numbers.

Speaking as the chief guest Ahmad said Jamia Millia was a symbol of tradition and modernity and praised the alumni.

“Alumni of any institutio­n play a very important role in the progress and developmen­t of the institute,” he said adding that

“Jamia has global alumni network and next year we are going to organise a global event in New Delhi.”

Ahmad also presented “Sitara-i-Jamia” award to IPS officer Hanif Quraishi (Haryana), Shah Alam (MLA), Nadim Akhtar, Rihan Khan Suri, Abdul Salam (ex MLA), Waseem, Nadeem Akhtar, Arshad Khan, Amanatulla (MLA New Delhi), Khwaja Mohd. Rafi (director Jahangirab­ad Institute of technology), Dr Omair Manzar and Sanaullah Tau.

Wasim Akhtar of Integral University and Akhilesh Mishra senior police officer were the guest of honour. The organizing committe of the programme included Saleem Ahmad, Tausif Ahmad, Afzal Husain, Masood Farooqi, Umair Ahmad, Akhtar Jamal Tassu, Naved, Mohammed Wakeel, Shahnawaz Khan and Mohammed Akbar.
