BURQA CLAD GIRLS HOLD PARADE, HAIL SC VERDICT ON TRIPLE TALAQ

-

GORAKHPUR: A group of burqa-clad girls participated in a parade hailing the Supreme Court decision on triple talaq, in the presence of chief minister Yogi Adityanath who presided over the foundation day programme of the Maharana Pratap Shiksha Parishad

The girls saluted the chief minister amid saffron flags and the slogan Bharat Mata Ki Jai.

The apex court held triple talaq unconstitutional in August and the central government is now working on a draft law to prescribe punishment for the practice.

Though the parade by the burqa-clad girls attracted the attention of all, the organisers saw nothing objectionable in it.

Dr Pradeep Rao, the principal of Digvijaynath Postgraduate College and organiser of the foundation day programme, said: “It was just one among different themes of the tableaus and the parade taken out today. I don’t know if the students were Muslims or not, but they joined us to hail the ban (on triple talaq.”

The girls who took out the parade were given certificates of appreciation.

Akansha, one of the participants, said: “The ageold practice has finally been abolished. Justice has been delivered to Muslim women who continued to fall prey to this tradition. So, we decided to choose this theme.”

Terrorism, patriotism and national integration were the themes for other tableaus.
