SP demo against power tariff hike on Dec 7
LUCKNOW: Samajwadi Party (SP) national president has announced a statewide protest by the party at all district headquarters on December 7 against the “indiscriminate hike in power tariff”.
State spokesperson and the national secretary of the party Rajendra Chaudhary said the party workers would stage dharnas and demonstrations at all district headquarters and at the end of the day give a memorandum to governor and demand a rollback.
Chaudhary said the BJP government betrayed the urban civic polls voters as it announced the hike the day after the three phased polls ended.
By announcing 65 % hike, the government had hit the poor and farmers badly, he said.
On one hand, the BJP had been harping on making the farmers’ income double by 2022 and on the other hand they had announced the back-breaking hike after GST and demonetisation already destroyed them economically, Chaudhary added.
The UP Electricity Regulatory Commission (UPERC) had on Thursday last announced the retail tariff order for 2017-18, increasing the tariff for the rural domestic consumers.
BKU PROTESTS AT DISTRICT COLLECTORATE
Farmers belonging to the Bhartiya Kisan Union demonstrated on Tuesday in front of the district collectorate office against increase in power tariff by the state government .
The farmers were also opposing the subsidy to new airports. They gave a memorandum to the DM demanding roll back of increased power tariff for the rural consumers.
They said farmers were already struggling with the hike in the rates of seeds and fertilisers.
