DHANBAD: Within three days after an assistant sub-inspector was shot at by diesel thieves in Dhanbad, alleged coal thieves stoned to death a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) jawan on duty at Kalyani siding of Central Coalfields Limited (CCL) under Chandrapura police station in neighbouring Bokaro district on Monday night.

The victim was identified as head constable RK Prasad, 54, who was on duty at the coal siding at the time of the incident.

Deputy superintendent of police (DSP), Bokaro, Rajat Mani Baxla, said over a dozen armed men were involved in the crime.

“As per the information, Prasad, who was on duty, challenged them initially. But since they were in large numbers, he entered into the weight bridge near the siding for safety. However, the thieves forcibly pulled him out from the room and stoned him to death,” Baxla said here.

He was rushed to Dhori central hospital of the CCL, but doctors declared him ‘brought dead’.

Later the CISF personnel pressed sniffer dogs into service, but they could not get any clue of the attackers.

CISF commandant Sushil Sharma, who also reached spot, told reporters that while probe into the reasons of incident was on, but the modus operandi hints at the role of coal thieves behind the murder.

“We are cooperating with the local police to find the root cause of the killing,” Sharma added.

DSP Baxla said an FIR in this connection would be filed at Chandrapura police station.

This happens to be second incident in last three days in Dhanbad where security personnel have come under attack from thieves.

Earlier in Putki area of Dhanbad, ASI Saheblal Murmu was shot at by diesel thieves when he attempted to check crime at an outsourced company under his jurisdiction.
