There has been a paradigm shift in management education not only in India but across the globe during the last decade. Employers are on a lookout for students who are more aware of the practical situations and can handle the same. Students, on the other hand, need to focus more on learnings outside the class rooms even during their stay at B-school campuses.

Let’s have a look at the top trends in management education that the B-schools are adopting for better results:

ENCOURAGING STUDENTS TO ENGAGE WITH THE WORLD

Students need to know and understand people from different origins, ethnicity, with different work norm orientation. Therefore, it is essential for each of them to develop a global perspective. Thus, giving students an environment that is more inter-connected and inter-dependent, is the priority for most of the B-schools. One of the steps taken in this regard is by developing international exchange programs so that students can learn from each other are able to communicate and work together across boundaries.

OFFERING SPECIALIZED PROGRAMMES

B-schools today are not only imparting education on general management but providing opportunities to students to identify their interest areas. For instance, several B-schools are launching sector specific courses like Energy management, public policy, specialized courses in project management, aviation management, healthcare management etc. These specialized courses help students develop expertise in their chosen areas.

CREATING ENTREPRENEURS

Management schools have now turned their attention towards making students understand the importance of learning in entrepreneurship ecosystem. Various mentoring opportunities are being provided by B-schools in understanding and overcoming the obstacles like capacity building, financing challenges, market strategies and communication competencies. The students now can learn different stages, i.e. from idea generation to the idea implementation stage. B-schools are conducting fulltime management programmes, certificate courses, diplomas and workshops in entrepreneurship to encourage and promote budding entrepreneurs.

DEVELOPING SOCIALLY RESPONSIBLE LEADERS

B-schools are making conscious efforts to inculcate social entrepreneurship qualities among students at individual level. The importance of human values, ethics and integrity has to be taught so that through various initiatives and effective methodologies budding managers can make a difference to the society by serving the community and society at large. As the changing technologies continue to change the way people live and work, it has become more critical than ever for management schools to foster in their students a sense of responsibility and make them more independent. They would thus be able to contribute to the process of nation building.
