Lko, Ghazipur to clash in state hockey final

LUCKNOW: Hosts and defending champions Lucknow and Ghazipur stormed into the final of the Jaman Lal Sharma Memorial State hockey tournament, notching up contrastin­g wins, at the KD Singh ‘Babu’ stadium here on Tuesday.

Lucknow crushed Etawah 8-0 after leading by 3-0, whereas Ghazipur beat Vivek Academy (Varanasi) by 4-1 in tie-breaker. Sharukh Ali and Alok Mishra scored two goals each for Lucknow, whereas Ansh Balmiki, Shiva Kanojiya, Krishna Mohan and Rahul Kanojia shared four goals between them.

Ramendra Pratap Yadav put Vivek Academy ahead in the second semi-final with a field goal in the 53rd minute (1-0), but within four minutes time, Alok Pal restored parity for Ghazipur also with a field goal.

In tie-breaker, Ghazipur struck three goals, whereas rivals couldn’t score even one. Final starts at 2.30 p.m. on Wednesday.

SCHOOL CRICKET

St Columbus Jr and Avadh School made it to the semi-finals of the 4th Mallick Memorial InterSchoo­l cricket tournament, scoring easy wins.

St Columbus School Jr Wing beat Police Modern School by five wickets, whereas Avadh School beat Avadh Inter College by 10 wickets.

BRIEF SCORES

Police Modern School 140 for 8 in 20 overs (Tarun Aditya 34, Shudhanshu Kumar 24, Suraj Rajput 3 for 12, Altamash Siddiqui 3 for 23, Vipin Yadav 2 for 32) lost to St. Columbus School 142 for 5 in 18.3 overs (Yashwant Sahu 70*, Prabhat Thakur 34, Faizan 2 for 18).

Avadh Inter College 53 in 16.3 overs (Shivendra Singh 3 for 12, Shashank Verma 2 for 6, Sumit Sandilya 2 for 11) lost to Avadh School 57 for no loss in 6.3 overs (Shashank Verma 27*, Saurabh Soni 18*).

PREMIER LEAGUE

The 1st season of the Lucknow Premier League begins on Thursday, at the mini stadium here in Vikas Nagar.

The winners and runners-up would be getting Rs 15,000 and Rs 10,000, respective­ly. 16 teams have confirmed their participat­ion.

They are: Samrat Alambagh, Eram Eleven, Speed Cricket Club, Ismailganj Panigaon, Omaxe Height, Chinhat Cricket Club, Sakir Sporting Club, Jankipuram Warriors, Rama Eleven, Vikas Indians, ING Warriors, BJS Sporting Club, Vikas Nagar Eleven, Takrohi Eleven, Slog Warriors, Sec 14 Eleven.
