AITA qualifying round: Local boy Shobhit struggles before crossing first hurdle in style

LUCKNOW: It was a tough journey for local boy Shobhit Tandon in the first qualifying round of the AITA Tennis Tournament, at the SDS Academy here as he staged a remarkable comeback from 2-6 down to level at 7-7 and win against Pranjual Maurya 8-7 (6) here on Saturday. Tandon kept his cool and a lucky net cord sealed the tiebreak.

BADMINTON TEAM

Young Abhyansh Singh will Uttar Pradesh is the Junior National Badminton Championsh­ip, starting December 12 at Guwahati (Assam). The team was announced on Saturday, following their 15-day camp.

Speed Cricket Club stormed into the final of the Lucknow Premier League Cricket Tournament, defeating BJS Club by 11 runs, at the Vikas Nagar stadium here on Saturday. Earlier in the quarterfin­als, BJS Club defeated Takrohi Eleven by 21 runs.

UP’s cabinet minister Rita Bahuguna Joshi was the special guest for the matches on Saturday.

Lucknow’s Raina Shukla, who won a bronze medal at the 36th National Taekwondo Championsh­ip in Haridwar, was on Saturday given a warm-welcome by the Lucknow Taekwondo Associatio­n, at the LDA Stadium here.

BUDDIES WIN

Cricket Buddies defeated 999 Cricket Club by 14 runs to win the Neelam Veterans Premier Cricket League, at the KD Singh ‘Babu’ stadium here on Saturday. After scoring 140/9 while batting first after winning the toss, Cricket Buddies restricted the rivals out for 126/6 in 20 overs.
