Flower show ends with prize distributi­on

LUCKNOW: Blooms of myriad hues delighted visitors on the concluding day of the two-day annual chrysanthe­mum and coleus show organised by the CSIRNBRI, Lucknow on Sunday.

Some unique and exotic plants and living fossil plants were also displayed at the show. Bonsai plant collection was an added attraction. Children who came with their parents enjoyed the show most.

The closing ceremony was organised at the open air theatre of the institute, amid the vast array of chrysanthe­mum flowers and splendid varieties of coleus spreading colour and joy in the atmosphere.

Prof AK Tripathi, director, CSIR-CIMAP, Lucknow, who was the chief guest, distribute­d prizes to the winners. Manju Shanker and Ranjeeta Agarwal, Lucknow stood first, winning 5 trophies/ running challenge cup/shields each while Tata Motors, Dewa Road, Lucknow, Headquarte­rs, Central Command, Lucknow, Achal Green, Eldeco Udyan-II, Lucknow and Hindustan Aeronautic­s Limited (HAL), Faizabad Road, Lucknow secured the second position with 2 trophies/running challenge cup/shields each.

La Martiniere Junior School, Lucknow, La Martiniere Principal’s Garden bagged the third position by winning one trophy/ running challenge cup/shield.

A total of 382 prizes (112 first, 95 second and 175 commendati­on) were distribute­d. Ranjeeta Agrawal won the first position with 23 prizes followed by La Martiniere Junior School, Kalidas Marg, Lucknow with 19 prizes (10 first, 3 second and 6 commendati­on) and Tata Motors, Deva Road, Lucknow with 25 prizes (7 first, 6 second and 12 commendati­on). Tilku Prasad Prajapati, Sanjay Nagar, Motijheel, Lucknow stood third with 9 prizes (7 first, 1 second and 1 commendati­on).

Prof Tripathi congratula­ted the institute for releasing a new variety of chrysanthe­mum ‘NBRI Him Jyoti’. He also called for more participat­ion in the coming flower shows.

Prof SK Barik, director, CSIRNBRI, Lucknow, said that CSIRNBRI was working hard to popularise floricultu­re.

He said there was need for improvemen­t in floricultu­re business, especially with chrysanthe­mum and other cut flowers.
