Online store Myntra customers taken for a ride

LUCKNOW: The UP Special Task Force (STF) in coordinati­on with Delhi police on Saturday busted a gang involved in cheating customers of on-line e-commerce store Myntra.

The police nabbed 18 persons, seized 26 mobile phones, a laptop, documents of eight bank accounts and data related to Myntra customers in the raid conducted on an illegal call center run in Dwarka area of Delhi.

In a press release, the STF said national nodal security officer of Myntra informed STF SSP Abhisek Singh about cheating of customers by the illegal call center. STF ASP Arvind Chaturvedi was directed to work out the case and a team was constitute­d.

During probe, the STF detected that calls were made to Myntra customers from the call center informing them a lottery they had in a lucky draw. The customers were told to deposit money in an account for delivery of the item. Several customers got into the trap and deposited the amount, only to find out later that they had been cheated. The centre collected Rs 32 lakh from 590 customers, some of whom lodged a complaint on the toll free number of Myntra. The STF also found that the gang involved in the fraud was running an illegal call center and had managed access to Myntra customer data base. Through digital analysis, the STF located the call center in Dwarka area of Delhi and with the assistance of Delhi police conducted raids. Eighteen people were rounded up. Mastermind Yogendra Chaudhary and his brother Sandeep Chaudhary, however, managed to escape. A, FIR was registered at the cyber police station in NOIDA.

SEVERAL GULLIBLE CUSTOMERS GOT INTO THE TRAP AND DEPOSITED THE SAID AMOUNT, ONLY TO FIND OUT LATER THAT THEY HAD BEEN CHEATED.
