JAMSHEDPUR: A five-year-old girl was allegedly raped by an unidentified man in Jamshedpur’s Chhota Govindpur locality when she went out of her home on Sunday morning.

A toilet is under the process of construction in the minor’s house. However, her family members usually defecated in the open as the under-construction toilet was not useable, sources said. The girl was rushed to the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College Hospital after she complained of pain in her lower abdomen and private parts.

Officer-in-charge of Govindpur police station Rajiv Ranjan said the police were yet to get the medical reports. However, a first information report was lodged under sections of Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act and section 376 of the Indian Penal Code.

“The accused it yet to be identified. We have lodged an FIR and initiated our investigation,” the officer said.

Doctors said that the girl is out of danger.

Family members of the girl blamed the delay in construction of toilets. “Our daughter would have been safe today if the toilet construction work was completed on time. The district administration is responsible for the delay,” said the minor’s mother.
