ALLAHABAD: The chief medical officer’s (CMO) office on Monday began an inquiry into a complaint of medical negligence, wherein doctors left a scissors in the abdomen of a woman during Caesarean operation allegedly resulting in her death on Sunday, in a hospital in Soraon area here.

The deceased’s kin filed an FIR against the two hospitals where the woman was taken for treatment.

Priya Soni, wife of Ashok Soni of Jamaha village in Mauaima area, was admitted to the Mother and Child Hospital (a private hospital) in Soraon for delivery of her child about one-and-a-half months back.

She delivered a baby on October 29 after a Caesarean operation. Few days later the hospital discharged her.

But even at home, she continued to complain of severe pain in her abdomen.

“An ultrasound test was conducted on her. It showed a scissors in her abdomen,” informed Mala Soni, the mother of the deceased.

Mala said when doctors of Mother and Child Hospital were informed, they admitted Priya to another private hospital -- Dwivedi Hospital -- in Soroan, where she was again operated upon for removing the scissors.

“However, as her condition deteriorated after the surgery, the doctors referred her to Swaroop Rani Nehru Hospital, also in Allahabad.

“Even after one-and-a-half month treatment, Priya’s condition failed to improve and she breathed her last on Sunday morning,” said Mala, who lodged an FIR against the owners of Mother and Child Hospital and Dwivedi Hospital in Mauaima police station.

CMO Dr Alok Verma said a committee, led by additional chief medical officer Dr AK Tewari, has been formed to inquire into this case. It will give its report in a week. “It’s a serious matter. If found guilty, the hospitals could lose their licence,” he added.
