LUCKNOW: Having earlier renamed the Ardh Kumbh as the (full-fledged ) Kumbh, the Yogi Adityanath government has now changed the logo for the world-famous event in an apparent bid to depict Hindutva more effectively.

The (Ardh) Kumbh is scheduled to be held in Allahabad in 2019 and the state government plans to make it a memorable event that is likely to come amidst the Lok Sabha elections in the country.

The new logo comprises the Om symbol, a kalash (pitcher) apart from the three rivers—the Ganga, the Yumuna and the Saraswati that converge at the Triveni Sangam in Allahabad.

“The Om icon will be at the bottom and above it will be the three rivers. The Kalash that also means Kumbh will be at the top,” a tourism department official told HT.

The 2013 Kumbh had Kalash as its logo. “Generally, the Kalash has been the logo all these years with minor changes at times. This is probably the first time when it is being revised thoroughly,” the official said.

The present logo, he said, was not able to represent the whole character of Prayag.

A proposal for the new logo is all set to be put to the Cabinet for its nod on Wednesday, after which governor Ram Naik and chief minister Yogi Adityanath will jointly launch it here soon, government sources said.

The new logo, according to sources, has been designed by lyricist, screenplay writer and poet Prasoon Joshi’s company McCann Erickson. The CM is leant to have asked the company to come out with a logo that is not only innovative but also characterizes Hindutva in a more pronounced manner.

The Adityanath government in October had scaled up Ardha Kumbh to the level of Kumbh and renamed the bigger Kumbh that is scheduled in 2023 as the Maha Kumbh. The government has decided to spend r1200 crore on the preparations of the (Ardh) Kumbh in 2019 of which Rs 400 crore will be spent during the current financial year only.
