SGPGI initiates process for NABH accreditation
LUCKNOW: The Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS) has rolled out the process to get accreditation from the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare in India. The NABH recognition means a stamp of quality regarding patient care.
During PGI’s foundation day ceremony on Thursday, the chief orator, director of the Indian Institute of Liver and Hepatobiliary Sciences, Padma Bhushan Dr SK Sarin had stressed on the need of NABH accreditation for all government hospitals.
However, medical superintendent SGPGIMS professor Amit Agarwal said the process for NABH accreditation was already on.
“We are gearing up for the process of NABH recognition as it has many benefits,” he said.
The accreditation will increase the public’s trust on SGPGIMS, as an independent external peer assessment of hospital will be carried out by the NABH, he added.
Patients will benefit the most as the NABH will ensure high standards of care and safety. Also, patients will get better services from the hospital, as their satisfaction is also evaluated in the accreditation process.
During the process, the staff will attend regular classes too, which will further improve services by increasing their professionalism levels.
Director SGPGIMS professor Rakesh Kapoor said, “NABH recognition means a commitment to quality healthcare. SGPGI is ready to set a new benchmark in healthcare. The institute has the infrastructure and a high calibre staff to get this recognition.”
