Anganwadi workers stage protest, demand wage revision
LUCKNOW:Cops were deployed at the dharna sthal to check protesting anganwadi workers on Friday, the second consecutive day of their protest.
The workers had gathered from seven districts -- Gonda, Bahraich, Shrawasti, Balrampur, Faizabad, Ambedkarnagar, Sultanpur – demanding wage revision and other facilities from the state government.
“We have put up genuine demands only including wage revision up to ₹15,000 that the representatives of the present government had agreed during our meeting,” said Neelam Pandey, general secretary of the Mahila Anganwadi Karamchari Sangh Uttar Pradesh that is spearheading the agitation.
Pandey said, “Our agitation will continue till our demands are met. Since the government had agreed to our demands once and still there is delay in meeting them, we have no option but to protest on roads.”
The anganwadi workers raised slogans as they marched at the dharna sthal. They said that despite working hard they are deprived of the wages promised by the state government and also the basic minimum facilities.On Saturday anganwadi workers from Azamgarh, Basti, Gorakhpur, Maharajganj, Kushinagar, Siddharthnagar will stage protest at the dharna sthal.
