Cops arrest 2 drug smugglers, recover 12.6 kg marijuana
LUCKNOW: The Chinhat police arrested two inter-state drug smugglers and recovered 12.6 kg marijuana late on Thursday night from the area.
Cops also recovered two fourwheelers used by the smugglers in ferrying drugs and transporting it to several parts of the city.
Cops disclosed the arrest and recovery of drugs on Friday.
Those arrested have been identified as Prem Shanker Rai, resident of Ballia district. In the state capital, he was residing at a rented accommodation at Virat Khand, Gomti Nagar. Other accused has been identified as Sunil Yadav of Awadhpuri colony, Gomti Nagar. According to reports, on Thursday night, the Chinhat police got information about two drug smugglers trying to sell marijuana in the industrial area. After sustained efforts and surveillance, cops arrested them from near Telco factory under the Chinhat police station.
From the car’s boot, in which the two smugglers were travelling, cops also recovered fake number plates of the vehicle and 12.6 kg marijuana.
Ravindra Nath Rai, station officer, Chinhat, informed that the two smugglers used to procure drugs from several districts in Odisha state with the help of a broker.
“Their main clients were labourers working in industrial area of Chinhat and students,” said Rai.
However, they also used to target people in other parts of the city, he added.
Both the accused have been booked under several sections of the NDPS ACT and sent to jail.
With the arrest of these two drug smugglers, the Lucknow police are trying to find out other drug smugglers active in the city and other parts of the state.
Of late, the Lucknow police had received complaints related with drug smugglers active in Chinhat area.
It was after these complaints that the senior superintendent of police Deepak Kumar directed the Lucknow police to track drug smugglers.
