LUCKNOW : Chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday launched a scathing attack on the Samajwadi Party for disrupting the state assembly proceedings on the power tariff hike issue.

The chief minister justified the hike, terming it nominal. He said 47 Samajwadi Party members held the House to ransom to hide the misdeeds of the previous government.

He urged speaker Hriday Narayan Dikshit to take appropriate action against the unruly SP members to restore normalcy in the House.

Adityanath first took on the opposition in the assembly. Later, when the speaker adjourned the House for the day, he immediately moved to the adjoining central hall to address a press conference.

He alleged the SP members knew that the success of BJP government will end dynasty politics in the state.

The SP was trying to instigate the people even though the state government had fixed the power tariff after holding a discussion with stakeholders, he said, adding the new tariff was transparent, not discriminatory.

The SP was against the state’s development whereas the state government was working to increase power generation, he claimed.

Earlier, as soon as the House assembled for the day, Leader of Opposition Ram Govind Chaudhary raised the power tariff hike issue.

Terming the hike anti-farmer, he demanded an immediate roll back. The SP and Congress members rushed into the well of the House and shouted slogans.

The speaker urged the agitated members to return to their seats and raise the issue during the zero hour. But the SP and Congress continued to shout slogans against the state government. The speaker then adjourned the assembly for 30 minutes but still the SP members continued to shout slogans in the well of the house.

Parliamentary affairs minister Suresh Khanna said the SP was frustrated after its defeat in the 2014 Lok Sabha election, the 2017 assembly polls and the recently concluded urban local bodies’ election. Energy minister Shrikant Sharma too attacked the SP, saying only five districts got regular power supply when the poart was in power. Now, 75 districts were getting regular power, he said.

When the Samajwadi Party (SP) and Congress members continued to shout slogans, Adityanath said the state government was ready for a debate but the SP was avoiding it as it feared its misdeeds will be exposed. Adityanath said the state government was working to ensure regular power supply in the rural areas.
