Woman rams car into boulder, co-passenger dies

LUCKNOW : A 40-year-old woman who was driving her car allegedly under the influence of alcohol, got critically injured after her vehicle rammed into a cycle track boulder and overturned near Smriti Complex in Ashiana here on the intervenin­g night of Tuesday and Wednesday. Her 28-year-old woman co-passenger died in the mishap.

The deceased was identified as a Daliganj resident Deepika Nishad alias Dolly while the injured was identified as Safalta Pathak, a resident of Ruchi Khand-I, Ashiana.

Senior sub-inspector of Ashiana police station, Nayan Singh said Safalta, who owned beauty parlour and was also into wholesale business of cosmetic products, was driving the car at the time of incident allegedly under the influence of alcohol. He said two liquor bottles and ₹54,000 cash was recovered from the car.

An eyewitness told the cops that the car was being driven very recklessly and the driver was apparently in inebriated state. He said the car rammed into the boulder soon after crossing Smriti Complex and overturned. He said the car skidded for around 10 metres and rammed into a tree. Both women were trapped inside and could be pulled out only after 30 minutes, he added. The police said the two women were rushed to Lok Bandhu hospital where Dolly was declared brought dead while

Safalta was referred to King George’s Medical University’s trauma centre where her condition was stated to be critical.

Safalta and Dolly were business partners and were returning to the former’s home from a late night party.

Safalta’s husband had died due to some illness several years ago and now she stays with their 14-year-old son Harshit while Dolly was a divorcee and stayed at Safalta’s house.
