LUCKNOW : In a bid to destroy the evidence, the two accused threw the revolver in Gomti river after the murder of former BJP MLA’s son Vaibhav Tewari, 28, here in Gomti Nagar area on December 16. The police however, failed to recover it despite multiple hours of search on Wednesday.

The two accused, Vikram Singh and Suraj Shukla, who are facing three-day police custody remand, revealed during interrogation that they threw the revolver into Gomti while crossing Gandhi Setu when they fled after opening fire at Vaibhav Tewari outside his residence in Kasmanda Apartments in Hazratganj. Tewari, who suffered a bullet wound on chest, had died on the spot. Inspector of Hazratganj police station, Anand Shahi along with his police team and two divers carried out several hours of search to find the weapon but failed to recover it.

He said the police tried recovering the weapon as it is crucial corroborative evidence against the two accused to prove them guilty in court.

“Although the police had already collected concrete evidences against the two accused, the weapon recovery would have been additional proof. Moreover, there is also an eyewitness of the murder that will be help in proving them guilty,” he emphasised.

On December 16, Vaibhav Tewari, a village pradhan and son of former MLA Prem Prakash Tewari, was shot dead when Suraj Shukla, who had remained the latter’s partner in property dealing and had monetary dispute with him, and Vikram Singh went to meet him over the same issue.

The two accused remained at large for over 48 hours before landing in police net when they turned up to surrender in court on Tuesday afternoon.

The incident created sensation in the city as it took place barely 300 meters from the Vidhan Bhawan.
