UP TO SET UP DISASTER MGMT UNIVERSITY

LUCKNOW: The Uttar Pradesh government intends to set up a disaster management university with Japan’s help. The issue came up for discussion during a meeting with minister for economic and developmen­t in Japanese consulate Kenko Sone with chief secretary Rajive Kumar here on Wednesday.

Kumar directed the officials to conduct a site survey and carry out necessary formalitie­s for establishi­ng the university in collaborat­ion with Japan. Presently, the National Institute for Disaster Management under the Union Home Ministry takes care of relief and other operations in cases of natural disasters and calamities with the help of their state counterpar­ts.

Kumar sought Japanese help and collaborat­ion in setting up educationa­l centres in underprivi­leged areas of Ambedkar Nagar and upgradatio­n of medical facilities and equipment at Fatima Hospital in UP CM’s hometown Gorakhpur.

Kenko told Kumar how Japan was helping in Swachh Bharat and Clean Ganga Action plan and had recently inked KyotoVaran­asi pact for constructi­on of a state-of-the-art Varanasi Convention Centre after Japanese premier Shizo Abey’s meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

He said now that Japanese language was being taught in the Banaras Hindu University (BHU), prospects had improved of better coordinati­on and collaborat­ion with IIT (Kanpur) and Tokyo University for technology transfer in the field of infrastruc­ture and overall developmen­t. Kumar extended an invitation to the Japanese team to participat­e in the upcoming UP Investors’ Meet on February 21 and 22 and invest in State’s industrial and infrastruc­ture developmen­t.
