BAREILLY: Two days after a farmer was killed by a tiger in Pilibhit, the partly consumed body of a missing woman was found inside Pilibhit Tiger reserve on Thursday, raising fears of another kill by a big cat of the reserve. The remains of the woman, spotted by her family members who were searching for her, were sent for postmortem examination.

Confirming the incident, additional superintendent of police, Pilibhit Rohit Mishra said, “Remains of one Kailashi Devi, 55 were recovered from compartment number four of PTR. Most parts of the body are missing and the limbs have also been separated. The family members identified the remains from the clothes found near the body.”

The body was recovered at around 2 pm on Thursday. The postmortem examination was under way by the time this report was filed. “The body is disfigured to a large extent. There are visible marks of large canine teeth on it which suggest the flesh was consumed by a big cat,” said a doctor heading the postmortem examination panel for Kailsahi Devi.

If the death is confirmed to be caused by tiger attack, it will be the 17th such kill by a feline from the reserve this year and the second this week. A 32 year old farmer was killed by a tiger on Tuesday. Reportedly, Kailashi Devi left her home to gather fire wood on December 22 and went missing after that. Her family members lodged a missing complaint with police. “The local police were not making any effort to find her so we decided to go to the the forest to search for her today. We found her remains in an open area inside the forest. Her clothes were lying near her remains,” said Subhash Verma, Kailsahi’s cousin who went inside the forest to search for her.

Later, a team of local police along with forest staff reached the spot at around 3 pm and arranged to transport the remains to the district hospital for post mortem examination.
