Lucknow shivers at 13.6 degrees C in the day
LUCKNOW: Dense fog engulfed many parts of Uttar Pradesh even as Muzaffarnagar remained the coldest place in the state, recording a minimum temperature of 4.2 degrees Celsius on Saturday.
Lucknow too woke up to a cold and foggy Saturday, with day temperature dropping to 13.6 degrees Celsius on the second last day of the year. It was eight degree below normal. Minimum temperature recorded was 9.8 degrees Celsius, two notches above normal. According to the weatherman, the day temperature in Lucknow dropped by 5.9 degrees Celsius within a day, largely due to dense fog that enveloped the city till noon. The maximum temperature in Lucknow on Friday was 19.5, three notches below normal.
Rise in humidity level (100%) contributed to the foggy conditions. Low visibility crippled normal life in the state capital as roads looked deserted, especially in the early morning. Allahabad, too, braved chilly winds as city registered a maximum temperature of 16.8 degrees Celsius, a fall of over 4 degrees as compared to Friday. The minimum temperature was 11.8 degrees Celsius.
The met department has predicted moderate to dense fog for the next 24 hours, while maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to be around 15 and 9 degrees Celsius, respectively.
For Lucknow and its neighbouring areas, the met department has predicted dense to very dense fog both in the morning and the night.
“The weather across the state is most likely to be dry with moderate fog at a few places,” said met director JP Gupta. The Lucknow district administration has already ordered closure of schools for a few days In view of intense cold and dense fog.
