LUCKNOW: A city businessman’s accountant, who was missing since Tuesday morning, had selfscripted the story of his kidnapping for monetary gain. The police, on Wednesday, arrested him and recovered ₹6 lakh from his possession that he had taken along before disappearing mysteriously.

The accused Govind worked as an accountant in a private firm owned by a Rajendra Nagar, Naka resident Raja Ram Agarwal.

He suddenly disappeared when Agarwal sent him to deposit ₹6 lakh in the firm‘s account at Nadan Mahal road branch of a bank on Tuesday morning.

Additional superintendent of police (ASP), West, Vikas Chandra Tripathi said Agarwal approached the Naka police station and lodged an FIR regarding his accountant’s disappearance after he did not return till late night.

He said the firm owner lodged FIR about the accountant’s kidnapping as initially suspected by the latter’s family members but the police probe revealed a different story.

He said the scanning of video footages of CCTV cameras installed at different places on route from the complainant’s house to the bank suggested that the accountant did not visit the bank but moved towards different route instead.

“Later, the accountant was traced after keeping the mobile phone of his family member on electronic surveillance. He was found hiding at his relative’s place in Amberkheda, Malihabad,” said the ASP.

He said the accountant confessed to his crime during the police interrogation.
