Shahbad, Cheema Academy notch up big wins in hockey

LUCKNOW: Favourites Shahabad and Cheema Academy continued their winning streak in the 29th All-India KD Singh ‘Babu’ sub-junior boys hockey tournament, notching up easy wins, at the Padamshree Mohd Shahid hockey stadium here on Wednesday.

Shahbad crushed Yamuna Nagar (Haryana) 10-1, whereas Cheema Academy blanked out Rajasthan 8-0 in other league match. Earlier, Tamil Nadu scored a solitary goal win against Dhaulpur, Southern Tamil Nadu beat Manipur and Mohali beat West Bengal 4-0.

Shahbad colts were outstandin­g in their play throughout the 60-minute duel and hardly gave any chance to rivals.

Manav Pal struck four goals, followed by Abhishek (3 goals) and Harmandeep (2 goals), whereas Ankush scored a consolatio­n goal for Yamuna Nagar.

Manwinder remained the star performer for Cheema Academy in the match against Rajasthan, netting three goals. Harmanjit, Shahid, Harpreet, Gurwinder and Gurmeet Singh shared five goals between them.

WEEKLY BRIDGE

Pair of RA Siddiqui and SQ Wajahat scored 59.03 percent points to emerge victorious in the match points pairs event at the weekly bridge tournament at the Lucknow Club here.

The winners had a margin of just over half a board and with a moderately good score.

They had five tops, four above average scores and one zero in their score.

They were followed by RK Aneja-Anup Kumar (55.56%), Arun Srivastava-TP Khare (54.86%) and RP Srivastava-GN Mehrotra (53.47%).

BIG WIN

Ghaziabad defeated Lucknow Circle III by 70 runs to make it to the final of the UP Avas Vikas Parishad Inter-Circle cricket tournament, at the Northern Railway stadium here on Wednesday. In other semi-final of the day, Head Quarters defeated Head Quarter Circle by 30 runs.

THRILLING VICTORY

Kalpana Cricket Foundation scored a thrilling six-run win against IPRK to collect full points in the Ekmi Devi Memorial Twenty20 cricket tournament, at the Pt Raas Bihari Tewari stadium here.

National Youngster Club too had an exciting two-run win against Gulmohar Cricket Academy in other match of the day.
