government schemes reach the common people. “These days, educational institutions are just imparting bookish education and degrees. Instead, institutions should play a key role in promoting schemes such as Digital India and Start-up India,” he said.
The chief minister said students should try to make use of science and technology to address the woes of common man. “Through Digital India, we can easily reach out to the needy and also identify those who are not benefitted by government welfare schemes.”
He added that technology benefitted the common people, for instance, when the ration cards were linked with the Aadhar, the fake ration card racket that was prevailing in the state was busted.
The CM also announced that there would be a yoga centre at the university named after Lord Buddha and a botanical garden named after Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar.
He said the state government would give ₹25 lakh for the yoga centre and ₹1 crore for the botanical garden.
Vice-chancellor RC Sobti said that the former chief minister had promised to fund these two projects, but it was never materialised. On this, Yogi said that he was not concerned about what the former CM promised and his government would provide the fund for sure.
Sobti also highlighted the university’s achievements on the occasion. In 21 years, the university made big strides to earn 16th position among the 40 central universities, the V-C said.
