SOSs to UP100: ‘Wife not giving tea’; ‘buffalo has climbed roof...’

LUCKNOW: “Madam, my buffalo has climbed up the rooftop. Please help,” says the caller to the attendant at the UP police emergency response centre UP100. And he is not the only one to call up UP100 every day for such ‘services’.

Interestingly, the centre’s outsourced and well trained call attendants are not banging the phone on such callers as the police control room would usually do earlier. They are politely suggesting ways that may come handy in such situations.

In case of this caller for instance, the attendant suggested the caller to lure the buffalo with some eatables to bring it down, says additional director general (ADG) of police, UP100, Aditya Mishra. Even a police response vehicle (PRV) was sent to the spot to find out if the caller was playing some prank or the buffalo actually did what was told to the team. The PRV personnel helped the caller to bring the buffalo down from the rooftop.

Another caller dialled UP100 when his wife refused to give him morning tea and sought police intervention. The PRV team reached the caller’s house and counselled the couple after which the husband got his morning tea.

Then there was this harassed husband who dialled UP100 complaining about his wife’s weird habit of keeping all doors of the

house open while she slept. When the caller was suggested to close the doors when his wife slept, he expressed his fear of being beaten up when she woke up. On the caller’s request, a UP100’s call attendant interacted with his wife and things were sorted out.

There were many such similar husband-wife issues that were reported to UP100.

But not all calls belting out bizarre problems find a solution. Take for instance the case of a caller who sought help when a monkey slapped him inside a temple premises.

Although the call attendants are trained to patiently tackle such calls, they are at their wit’s end when callers seek help in making their naughty kids sleep, like an attendant experienced the other day when a caller from a rural area told the attendant that his child is continuously crying in the absence of his wife.

He said the child is scared of the police and will sleep if any cop or a police vehicle comes calling.
