‘Implement policy for the benefit of youths’
LUCKNOW: A workshop on UP Youth Policy-2016 was organised by Sahyog, a voluntary organization, here on Thursday.
Speaking at the workshop, Shachi of YNPN (Yuva Niti Pairokari Network) said that with effort from Sahyog and its partner networks, the Uttar Pradesh government prepared the guidelines of the state’s youth policy in 2016. “But a detailed information about the policy is yet to be shared among the youth who shall benefit from it,” she said.
Shishir Chandra of YNPN said that it was sad that Uttar Pradesh, the state that has maximum youth in the country as compared to the other states, was yet to implement the policy and there was no clarity upon its implementation. Without implementing the policy the benefit would not reach the youth, he said.
The speakers demanded the policy to be strengthened regarding some issues like health. It also demanded that a committee should be constituted that had representatives from various sectors such as youth and voluntary groups. They also demanded a proper budgetary allocation.
Since, a major percentage of the population was youth, both the central and the state government need to focus on the youth and their needs, said the speakers.
The event witnessed participation of 70 youths from different colleges and representatives from voluntary organisations of various districts.
