Padmaavat row: Threat to plant bombs in theatres

BAREILLY: Amidst the ongoing protest over release of Padmaavat after the direction of the Supreme Court, local politician­s have issued warning to cinema halls against the film’s release.

In Bareilly, a member of Akhil Bhartiya Chhatriya Mahasabha Sukhbir Singh Bhadoria on Monday threatened “to plant bombs in cinema halls showing Padmavat.”

“We will plant bombs in cinema halls... Modi must stop the movie’s release. If it doesn’t happen, I will kill the director of the movie Bhansali (Sanjay Leela Bhansali) with my own hands,” Bhadoria was seen as saying in a video on Monday.

A day before, Bhuvneshwa­r Singh, another member of the group, had threatened to attack Parliament and burn the Supreme Court. Taking a tough stand, Bareilly police have registered an FIR against unidentifi­ed persons and charged them with sedition.

“FIR has been registered at Kotwali police station under section 124A( Sedition), 506(Criminal intimidati­on) of IPC and relevant sections of IT Act,” said superinten­dent of police of Bareilly Rohit Singh Sajwan adding the video in question had been sent to forensic lab to verify its

GORAKHPUR PROTEST

At least half dozen Hindu organisati­ons staged a joint protest against the movie’s release outside city ‘s SRS cinema on Monday. Carrying saffron flags and raising slogan against Bhansali, the protesters demanded ban on the screening of the movie and submitted a memorandum with DM’s office in this regard.

MEERUT FACE-OFF

Dalits and Rajputs came face to face in Harad Fatehpur village in Shamli district on Saturday after a Dalit youth posted a provocativ­e comment on a Rajput youth’s Facebook regarding the movie Padmaavat.

Later, both sides were summoned by the police and the matter was resolved on Sunday. They also agreed not to lodge FIR in the case. The comments posted on the Facebook were deleted.
